Poem in Your Pocket Day: hundreds of poems distributed

The Writing Studio celebrated National Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 21 by coordinating poetry give-a-ways at four locations. The main branch of the Erie County Public Library distributed 500 individually rolled and ribbon-tied poems and each of its four branches gave away 100 poems. Gannon University, under the direction of Laura Rutland, handed out poems for four hours, and Hannah Choi Paul worked with her English students at East High School to distribute selected poems to faculty, and Sister Mary Lou Kownacki conducted a poem in your pocket workshop with children from Emmaus Kids Café, an after school program. “There was lots of energy around this day,” said Sister Mary Lou, “and people are we’re already talking about expanding it next year.”
